About This Place

Located in the heart of Dade City, FL, The Black Eyed Pea offers a truly authentic American dining experience with a special emphasis on hearty breakfast and comfort food classics. This charming, mom-and-pop restaurant perfectly blends the warmth of a home-cooked meal with the satisfying flavors that keep locals and visitors coming back time and again.

Step inside and you are immediately embraced by the welcoming atmosphere, reminiscent of a friend’s kitchen rather than a typical eatery. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee mingles with the sizzling sounds of bacon and eggs being prepared—a sensory invitation hard to resist. Whether you arrive for breakfast or lunch, the menu is brimming with delicious options that showcase the best of Southern-inspired American cuisine.

Breakfast here is a celebration of comfort food done right, with standouts like the fluffy, melt-in-your-mouth Biscuit Sandwiches layered with crisp bacon, melty cheese, and perfectly scrambled eggs. For those who adore indulgence, the Big Daddy Bacon Cheeseburger with two onion rings is a must-try: a juicy, flavorful burger paired with hand-battered onion rings that offer a crispy, golden crunch with every bite. The Biscuits and Gravy Combo and the traditional Chicken Fried Steak also bring that down-home satisfaction you crave on a cozy morning or mid-day meal.

Lunch features fresh, hearty salads like the Buffalo and Blue Cheese chopped salad and the Fried or Grilled Chicken Salad, both vibrant and packed with flavor. Sandwich options range from classic staples such as the BLT and the Club Sandwich to more substantial choices like the Chicken Philly and Turkey Club served with crispy French fries. There’s also a thoughtfully crafted kids and seniors menu, making The Black Eyed Pea a welcoming spot for families and visitors of all ages.

Guests often commend the consistently excellent service—the staff greet you warmly and make you feel genuinely valued. Diners like Bill Austin appreciate the regulars’ favorite breakfast items and rave about the cheeseburger as a lunch go-to. Al Gonzalez perfectly summarizes the experience by calling it “a small mom-and-pop restaurant that truly feels like home,” highlighting the authentic, heartfelt hospitality behind every meal.

Though some visitors note minor inconsistencies, such as the occasional undercooked home fries, the overall impression remains overwhelmingly positive. The generous portions and comforting flavors make the journey worthwhile, even for those traveling a little farther. You’ll find yourself drawn back again and again, whether it’s for the perfectly crispy onion rings, the savory baked chicken with mashed potatoes and greens, or simply to soak in that nostalgic feeling of genuine home-style cooking.

Open even on Mondays, a rarity in Dade City, The Black Eyed Pea stands as a testament to the enduring appeal of simple, honest food made with care. If you’re craving a meal that feels like a warm embrace and leaves you fully satisfied, this local gem should not be missed.

I have eaten here for years when I'm camping in Dade City. Usually for breakfast. I like all the breakfast items I have had. The cheeseburger all the way is so good I only order that for lunch. Extremely popular with locals which says a lot. Parking lot is often full and restaurant always have lots of diners.

This small mom-and-pop restaurant truly feels like home the moment you walk in. The service is warm and genuine—like being welcomed into someone’s kitchen. The food and the atmosphere both have that comforting, home-style feel that’s getting harder to find. The Big Daddy bacon cheeseburger was absolutely phenomenal—packed with flavor, perfectly cooked, and definitely something I’ll come back for. Their breakfast, too, was delicious and hearty, just the way a good hometown spot should be. If you’re looking for a place with great food, a cozy vibe, and service that makes you feel like family, this is it. Highly recommend!

We got onion rings. We're big in size. I prefer small onion rings. But they were good. Got burger with bacon. They still put cheese on it. Home fries were not cooked all the way. Husband got burger patty with eggs and the uncooked home fries too. Was good not sure if go back it's 45 minute ride.

Don't let the outside look fool you like it has me for the last couple year; this place is a MUST visit when you're in the area and well worth a drive to have a fresh tasting, homemade meal!! The serving staff was very friendly and greet you upon entry, the menu is self explanatory but our server answered every question without hesitation and was very nice to have a conversation with along with a very affordable meal! I had the Philly steak and fries which was absolutely perfectly executed! The steak was juicy and cooked all the way through with PLENTY of cheese to make my stomach very happy! My wife had a grilled cheese and fries where the sandwich was a double decker which was just crispy enough but not burnt! To finish off our brunch we shared a slice of fried apple pie...thats right I said FRIED!!! The taste was awesome and felt like it was made with puff pastry which made it flaky and perfect! You won't find another restaurant that seems to care about their customers and quality of food they serve to their customers because we have tried but what we loved about it is that it is family owned and operated!! I believe we finally found our forever place to grab a late lunch or breakfast!! YOU HAVE TO TRY THE BLACK EYED PEA!!

I have yet to have a bad meal at the Black Eyed Pea. Today, I door dashed biscuit sandwiches and they were perfect. Fluffy biscuits, crisp bacon, melty cheese and delicious egg. Plus, they are open on Mondays! Which is a hard find in Dade City.

Almost missed this restaurant driving through Dade City. It has a small space and quaint atmosphere. Our server was wonderful- very friendly and attentive. We stopped around lunchtime and got the fried shrimp and onion rings. Holy cow. The batter on the shrimp was light and crispy which went perfect with the huge shrimp. The onion rings were sweet onions that were cut thick and deeeelicious. The portions were huge and everything was reasonable priced. We came in starving but neither of us could finish our plate. We definitely will be back when we are in the area!

First time dining at The Black Eyed Pea and was very impressed in our experience!!! Upon entry we were told we can sit anywhere we want which was nice. Had fried green tomatoes as an appetizer which was great!!! All the food came out hot and full of flavor!!! Sweet tea was excellent!! Restaurant inside was quaint with nice old Florida murals painted on the walls…In addition, the staff was extremely friendly and welcoming!!! Definitely recommend if you enjoy southern style food!!!

This food was delicious! Just like Momma's house, lol. All joking aside...the food reminds me of home cookin and I didn't leave one drop or crumb. I had Country Fried Steak, with Vlack eyed Peas, Collard Greens, and Lima Beans. I could have eaten a whole pot of the Limas by myself , they were perfect. Great place and I will definitely be back. Thanks!
